What is Mantrailing?
Training dogs to find people for fun.
At A Pawsitive Step, we offer specialised Mantrailing dog training in Malmesbury and surround areas. Our Expert-led sessions provide mental stimulation and fun for your Dog. It's an exhilarating scent-based Dog sport, where your canine companion learns to locate a specific person by following their unique scent trail. It taps into your dog's natural hunting instincts and enhance the bond between you, in a controlled, enjoyable way.
Simply put, it is the single best way to help dogs with issues such as dog to dog interactions, worries and overexcitement.
Their nose really dominates their sensory world and focuses a large part of their brain on the task, blocking out other distractions. Simply put, a dog can't be unhappy and nervous when sniffing, their brains are biologically wired to be happy when sniffing and switch off the stress!
Our Mantrailing Sessions
In Mantrailing, We teach them how to harness that amazing sense of smell and turn it into a fun activity for you to do together as a sport.
- Strengthen obedience: Build better variety in your bond with your dog.
- Boost Confidence: Successfully completing trails can significantly increase your dogs optimism. Pessimism is THE primary reason why dogs are anxious or fearful.
- Inclusive Activity: Mantrailing is suitable for all dogs, regardless of age, breed or physical capability as each Dog works one at a time, ensuring a tailored experience. It's a low impact activity on both Dog and Handler.
Introduction Workshops
This three hour session introduces you and your dog to the fundamentals of Mantrailing, including understanding Scent, proper use of equipment and conducting initial trails. Should you wish to work more than one dog in the same session, you will need to book one space per dog and have one handler per dog at the introduction session.
In order to attend a workshop or training session you will need a Y-shaped harness (not a walking harness version) for your dog and a long line (8-10m).
Not sure what harness is right for Dog Sport? They are different for Mantrailing to a normal walking/canicross/sled harness. I am selling Truelove Country Training Harnesses and Houndagrip Longlines (10m), both suitable for Mantrailing at a pet dog sport level, if you're unsure which harness or line to get.
Be aware that your dog will need to rest in your car between each trail whilst you hide for another team. If your dog is not happy being on their own, please bring someone along to sit with them.
The cost of this 3 hour session is £50.00. Maximum of 4 Dogs and Handlers to a group.
Progression Sessions
Ongoing training to advance yours and your dogs abilities, tackling more complex trails and environments to continually engage and engage as a team.There will be drinks and biscuits available.
The cost of these 3 to 4 hour sessions are £30.00. (Price may vary according to location used too). Maximum 4 handlers and 4 dogs to a group. Please click on the button below to book your PROGRESSION SESSION.
